FOR THE LOVE OF
One of the most magical parts of fall for kids, and for me, is that amazing stuff seems to be just falling from the sky.
Take a basket out and collect all the beautiful thing you see. It is seriously just miraculous.
I love filling my classroom and home writing center with all the treasures we find on autumn walks.
One of easiest things to collect around here are acorns. If your neighborhood is anything like ours, we have your next rainy day covered with five awesome acorn activities..
5 Acorn Activities
Dump your acorn collection out on the dining room table and challenge your child to sort them in as many ways possible.
With Caps/Without Caps/Only Caps
With Leaves/Without Leaves
The categories are endless!
Add a writing challenge by creating labels for each of your sorted groups.
This is that old “which cup is the ball hiding under”, only this time its an acorn that’s hiding and the cups are labeled. Label three cups with three identifying facts your child is working on (letters, shapes, numbers, colors…). Tell your child to close their eyes and hid and acorn under one of the cups.
Do the fun and fancy switching them around on the table and have your child guess which cup the acorn is under by VERBALLY IDENTIFYING the label on the cup “ I guess the 3 cup!”. Such a simple way to practice some simple facts!
